Every now and again we hear of a 'new' cannabinoid being derived from the cannabis plant. The fact is, some of these 'new' cannabinoids have probably been present in cannabis since this organism was first discovered. Therefore, although not new, it is new to us. There is no denying that there are over 100 cannabinoids produced from the cannabis plant, some more well known than others, but moreover, the compounds cannabis gives us, are renowned for giving health benefits.
For centuries cannabis has been recognised and used by many cultures for the healing benefits it can give our health. It has been used as a natural medicine, endorsing the belief that it is a wholesome remedy that can address numerous ailments.
However, when we talk about the cannabis plant, the first compound that springs to mind is Delta 9 THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Delta 9, or as it is otherwise known on the street as, 'pot', 'green', 'dope', 'grass', 'Mary Jane', 'reef', and others, is widely illegal across the globe. It is its robustly psychoactive nature that has made Delta 9 unlawful. It is mind-altering, and can leave the user in a 'stoned' mind-state. It can slow cognitive function, and also leave the user lethargic.

Cannabiripsol (CBR), is another cannabinoid derived from the cannabis plant. It has only recently been discovered in a South African cannabis plant variant, and consequently little research or study has taken place. This new compound can now be added to the growing number of cannabinoids present in cannabis sativa.
Progressive investigation into CBR is slow, as the legislation around the cannabis plant is restrictive, due to its psychoactive powers. It is too early to speculate, but if other cannabinoids derived from the cannabis plant are anything to go by, rest assured it will have beneficial health properties.
There are a variety psychoactive effects from different cannabinoids, some robust, some mild, some non-psychoactive. However, blend some of these cannabinoids together, and it will give the 'entourage effect' which many people seek. The 'entourage effect' can give a combination of physical and mental healing benefits depending on what health issue is being addressed.
